An Audiologist’s Perspective: Lyric Hearing Aids

Lyric Hearing Aids Review: A Cure for Tinnitus?

Lyric hearing aids

Lyric hearing aids have revolutionized the field of hearing health care. My name is Dr. Amy, and I’m a Doctor of Audiology. As an audiologist with experience fitting a range of hearing aids, I’ve seen that Lyric differs from other devices. These devices are designed to provide exceptional sound quality while at the same time being virtually invisible hearing aids. Patients love the invisibility and ease of use. However, there are also important points to consider before purchasing Lyric hearing aids. In this article, I’ll share my experience and explain how a Lyric hearing aid works, its benefits, and how it compares to traditional hearing aids.

Why should you trust us?

As a hearing healthcare professional, I’ve fit hundreds of patients with hearing loss and worked with many different types of hearing aids. I provide patients with the very best hearing care solutions.

How Lyric Hearing Aids Work

A Lyric is an invisible hearing aid that fits deep in the ear canal and can be worn for days or weeks. Unlike traditional hearing aids, the Lyric device uses a microphone inside the ear to amplify sounds from a more natural position. As a result, patients often find that Lyric provides a natural listening experience. Traditional hearing aids capture the environmental noise level from behind the ear. In addition, Phonak Lyric hearing aids don’t require removing them at night, charging, or replacing the battery. As a result, many patients who wear Lyric feel like they’re not wearing a hearing aid.

The Benefits of a Lyric Hearing Aid

The Phonak Lyric hearing aid offers several advantages over traditional hearing aids. One of the most notable benefits is their invisibility; because they are placed so deep within the ear canal, they are almost entirely hidden from view. Lyric devices also have an exceptionally long battery life, which lasts for weeks. Finally, because these devices sit in your ear canal for up to months, you won’t need to schedule frequent appointments with your hearing care professional for adjustments or repairs.

Tinnitus Support

Lyric hearing aids are an excellent option for those with tinnitus who seek relief. Why is that? Unlike traditional hearing aids, Lyric hearing aids are worn 24/7, making them the only hearing aid to provide constant tinnitus relief and potentially improve sleep quality. Patients often report tinnitus perception lessens over several weeks when wearing hearing aids. In addition, some find that their tinnitus flares in the evening after removing their hearing aids. However, even at night, Lyric is worn around the clock to provide constant tinnitus relief.

Comparing Lyric Hearing Aids with Traditional Hearing Aids

  • Only for mild to moderate hearing loss
  • No Bluetooth connectivity or audio streaming
  • It doesn’t connect to a Smartphone app

Lyric hearing aids offer several unique benefits that traditional devices do not; however, they also have some limitations. For instance, these devices are best suited for people with mild-to-moderate hearing loss; if you have severe to profound hearing loss, traditional hearing aids are more appropriate for you as they provide greater amplification than Lyric devices. Also, do you like controlling your hearing aid with an app or streaming phone calls or other audio? Unfortunately, this is one feature Lyric doesn’t offer.

What Else to Consider with Lyric

Lyric hearing aids have some unique qualities. It’s an excellent option for tinnitus relief or invisible hearing aids, but let’s discuss some potential drawbacks to Lyric hearing aids.

  • Not as good in background noise
  • Lyric subscription model makes for a pricier hearing aid

While the microphones in the deep ear environment capture sound from a more natural sound position, processing in background noise is not as good as other hearing aids. The main focus of Lyric is invisibility, meaning that there is less room for the internal processing components and the way they process sound could be better in background noise. The cost is also higher than for traditional hearing aids due to the subscription model. If the Lyric device battery life unexpectedly dies, you must schedule an appointment with your audiologist for a replacement device.

Who should try Lyric?

If you have mild to moderate hearing loss and want an invisible hearing aid or continual tinnitus support, Lyric is a great option. However, Lyric may be financially out of reach for those with a more limited budget. Additionally, if you produce a lot of ear wax, are prone to ear infections, or have sensitive ear canals, Lyric is not the best choice.

Phonak Lyric Hearing Aids

Phonak Lyric hearing aids are a great option if you’re looking for invisible hearing aids with 24/7 tinnitus support.

Conclusion:

Lyric hearing aids offer some advantages over traditional models, including invisibility and tinnitus relief. However, there are still some essential things to consider before deciding whether or not this technology is right for you. I’ve seen some patients do really well with Lyric, but it’s not the right choice for everyone. Make sure to talk with your audiologist about any concerns you might have about wearing Lyric or other types of daily wear hearing aids so that you make the right choice for your hearing loss and needs.
